Self portrait, oil on canvas
Born in 1965, Connie Faber studied visual arts and worked for many years as an art teacher while continuously pursuing her own artistic practice as a painter and illustrator.
Storytelling lies at the heart of her work. Through carefully constructed compositions, vibrant yet harmonious color palettes, and a wealth of detail, she creates paintings that invite viewers to linger, observe, and discover their own narratives. Drawing on observations of contemporary life, her work explores the subtle interactions, contradictions, and emotional undercurrents that shape everyday experience.
Following a series of paintings featuring animals in urban environments, Faber’s recent work has evolved into an exploration of time, waiting, and attention. Her paintings focus on moments that are often overlooked: people waiting, passing time, observing, or simply inhabiting a space between action and resolution. In a culture increasingly defined by speed, productivity, and constant stimulation, these suspended moments become the subject itself.
Rather than depicting dramatic events, Faber is interested in the narratives that emerge from what appears uneventful. Waiting is approached not as an absence of action, but as a psychological and social condition—a space where expectation, uncertainty, boredom, contemplation, and possibility coexist. Through layered compositions and carefully orchestrated visual details, each painting offers multiple points of entry, encouraging viewers to construct their own interpretations and stories.
Many of her titles introduce an additional conceptual layer through irony or subtle shifts in meaning. Together, image and title create a productive tension between what is seen and what is implied, inviting reflection on contemporary habits, social behavior, and the ways in which we experience and measure time.
Connie Faber lives and works in Luxembourg. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and group exhibitions in Luxembourg and abroad.
